Peace Poles

Twelve “peace poles” may be found spaced around the trail. These say, “May peace prevail on Earth” in English and another language. If you look closely you will also find a small plaque on each pole with a peace quote by an individual known for his or her peace and reconciliation work. You can find the quotes and a bit about these individuals in our Self-guided Tour Booklet.

Peace poles are a global phenomenon, started in 1955 by Masahisa Goi, a Japanese man, after World War II. You can see pictures of other peace poles around the world here.

It is our hope that the peace poles around the North Valley Friends Trail help the Newberg community foster a culture of peace that extends to ourselves, our creator, our community and our world.
